Fun Facts about Leap Day
There are lots of things you may already know about how Leap Day came to be, for instance that the Leap Year synchronizes our Gregorian Calendar with the Tropical Calendar (measured from one vernal or autumnal equinox to the next, or from one Summer or Winter solstice to the next), but here are some fun facts you may not have heard:
- Those born on February 29 are called “Leapers or Leaplings” and celebrate their birthdays once every four years.
- Leap years are easy to figure out – they are divisible by 4.
- The odds of being born on a leap day stand at approximately 1 in 1,461.
- About 5 million people in the world were born on this day.
- Some call February 29 Bachelor Day when women are allowed to propose to men!
- In Greek tradition it remains bad luck to be married on Leap Day.
- Motivational Speaker Tony Robbins, and Actress and Singer Dinah Shore are both Leaplings.
